Valentino, Retrospective: The Stars

" The work of Valentino is timeless..."
- Christian Biecher, architect for the Valentino, Retrospective exhibition

There are kings, and then there are Kings. Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani, better known simply as Valentino has been called many things. Famous for his Valentino SpA line of designer wear, he is perhaps as equally recognised for his extensive art collection as well as his flamboyant lifestyle. So much so that he was said to be one of the kings of high living.

That aside, through his 50-year career, the notion of trend was never of concern to Valentino Garavani. That didn't equate to old-school. In contrary, the Italian haute couture designer's one-of-a-kind use of volume, line, texture and recurring motifs birthed his own signature series of exotic gowns which have been hailed exquisite and timeless.

We take a look at some of the big names who have been spotted in Valentino gowns -

The Oscars 2001 would be remembered as the year the stars went vintage. Bagging an Oscar for her performance in 'Erin Brockovich' by Steven Soderbergh, Julia Roberts received the thumbs up for her appearance in this black vintage gown with white piping and sheer inset. Simple yet really classy looking piece!

Sporting the iconic Valentino red, Jennifer Aniston turned up at the 'Along Came Polly' London premiere 2004 in this strapless (covered by the jacket in this picture) prom dress that had a classic 1950's look. A refreshing sight from Jen's usual laidback chic look in black.

If vintage summed up the star's choice at the 2001 Oscars, strapless would be that for the 77th Annual Academy Award in 2005. Cate Blanchett was no exception, or at least, halfway. Gracing the occasion in this one-shoulder pale yellow silk taffeta gown accompanied by a satin burgundy bow sash, the Australian star took home the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role in the Aviator, in style.

A feast for the eyes. Well, more good news.

Get up close and personal with this exotic line of dresses as Valentino comes to Asia, and more specifically, right here in RWS! Come Dec 22, Resorts World Sentosa will be hosting an exclusive exhibition - Valentino, Retrospective: Past/ Present/ Future - which will feature 100 dresses, outlining Valentino's early works to current day creations by Creative Directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. Don't miss out this rare opportunity!
